At FireFlow Services, our highly trained ground ladder testers collaborate closely with manufacturers to gain a full understanding of the design, functionality, and operational qualities of all types of ground ladders. This expertise enables us to provide comprehensive and accurate testing services. We test ground ladders of varying sizes, ranging from compact 6-foot models to large 50-foot ladders, as well as a variety of types and brands of ladders. We test folding ladders, roof ladders, extension ladders, and multi-purpose ladders (such as Little Giants). With our meticulous approach, every ladder, regardless of type or manufacturer, is thoroughly inspected and tested to meet the highest standards of safety and performance.
Ground ladders used in the fire service and sold to the fire department as a fire department rated ladder are subject to a series of tests per NFPA 1932 guidelines. We subject each ladder type to a series of tests and inspections to give you the confidence that a ladder will not fail when you need it the most. These tests include, but are not limited to:
We conduct a detailed visual inspection of each ladder to identify a variety of potential physical issues. This includes checking for rust, corrosion, cracks, bad welds, loose bolts on guides, and poor lubrication. We also look for missing components or any other visible defects that could affect the ladder's structural integrity or functionality.
We subject each folding, roof, extension, and combination ladder to an extended weight test. We test each ladder with the required weight and time to make sure that the ground ladder performs as per the manufacturer's specifications.
Each roof ladder has roof hooks that are tested for sturdiness, operability, and pressure. Roof hooks are checked for ease of clearance and opening. Each set of roof hooks is tested under 1,000 pounds of pressure to ensure that the hooks remain stable and do not bend when subjected to extended pressure.
For extension ladders, we inspect and test the pawl locks on each section. Each pawl lock is visually inspected. The locking mechanism is tested to make sure it moves freely and engages the rungs, and that the release mechanism is functional. Each set of pawl locks is tested under 1,000 pounds of pressure to ensure that they remain stable and do not bend when subjected to prolonged stress.
